More Like Moose

Today we headed back to the Park.  Our intention was to drive the length from West Glacier to St. Mary and up to Many Glacier.  We said we would not stop until we got to Many Glacier.  Of course we stopped…great excuse though…Moose.  Specifically a female and her young calf in the middle of the MacDonald Creek…as in right off the road.  From the distance we first thought they were horses…though we could not see a rider.  Then we thought “bears” and finally realized it was 2 moose…pretty sweet.

With weather so perfect and clear air we did stop a couple more times for yet more pictures.  Cooper was acting like the great blonde hunter and tried his squirrel stalking technique on the ground squirrels.  Those buggers are pretty good at keeping him guessing their location and generally driving him nuts.  No harm was done to any of them and off we drove on to Many Glacier.

The Many Glacier section of the Park is a bit different…drier and less travelled.  It is not really big at all (in a driving sense that is...lots of intense hiking) and we reached the end of the road pretty quickly.  Lunch was spent scanning the hillsides for grizzlies, mountain goats or big horn sheep…none were found.  Rather than head back through the Park we decided to take the long way home via East Glacier...twice as far in distance, but the speed limit more than made up for the distance.  We ended up getting back in the same amount of time and no construction zones.

Tomorrow Cooper once again heads to Three Dog Ranch while we find a hike to do that won’t kill us…then dinner with friends at Mackenzie River Pizza.
