Today we headed off to Whitefish for another day of skiing. Our mission for the first run or so was to see if there happened to be another slope for a boarding beginner. One not too steep or too narrow so not to die going down toe side...very important for the beginning boarder.
After one run we headed to the top of the mountain before the fog totally enveloped the area. Guess who we found right by the slope side map...a fellow Virginian by the name of Glenn. Whitefish has Resort Ambassadors who help out on the slopes. They also conduct "tours" of the resort which is terrific since it is a rather large place. We happened along just as Glenn was preparing for one of their scheduled tours...he offered to show us one of his favorite runs and off we went for a tour of over 2 hours. What a great way to get a feel for the mountain and how to get from one lift to another without pulling out our map. He was a great guide and full of good information about the area. We must say that we were pretty much ready for a break after all the runs we managed to squeeze in that 2 hour period...Moose's was a favorite and the Ptarmigan Bowl was a wee bit scary due to flat light, but man was it fun. After Glenn left us we headed in for some lunch and to warm up. Since we had learned so much new terrain with Glenn we decided to hold off boarding for a little longer & head back up to the top for more skiing.
In time though Cindi had to practice her boarding skills & we switched out our equipment. She's improving all the time, but still gets concerned about the "obstacles"...you know things such as other skiers, both big & small, along with the cones that instructors put all over the darn hill. She really dislikes all of these "problems" so she needed some instruction or a better word would be ORDERS. Cindi followed the orders pretty well and did exactly as the Instructor said...until he said to turn toe side when heel side was the correct "order"...she fell. At that point she ignored his orders and did exactly what she wanted...until her brain turned off & it was time to pack it in for the day.
Sorry we were unable to take any pictures of our day on the mountain...flat light, fog, fast skiing, & having way too much fun to stop...take your pick.
