Taking a Wrong Turn

As we were trying to leave Kalispell we noticed the local car & dog wash located at a gas station. Can you imagine a place where you can get both the car & dog all washed as you get a cup of coffee...imagine the new business opportunities this could bring to Midlothian.Cindi also decided that she had to visit the local yarn shop, Camas Creek. After reading about the shop online she had to stop by to see it for herself on our way out of town. She claims that it is the most beautiful shop she's been in...we know she's been in quite a few so that's quite a statement. The couple renovated an old 1925 building...restored the tin ceiling and added quite a few sofas, chairs and even a faux fireplace to knit beside. Not to mention the yarn & all the supplies to go along with knitting...she wished she'd dropped by earlier in the week. Thankfully for the budget she didn't get the chance.

Finally we reluctantly left Montana and headed off towards Idaho by way of another one of those scenic highways. As we drove along we kept seeing Bald Eagles roosting in the nearby trees alongside the road. We'd love to post pictures if only the camera person could have gotten the shots off in time. (Edited: by Camera Person...the driver should have pulled over whenever she pointed out the eagles.) So you'll just have to take our word on the fact that yes we did see 5-7 bald eagles along the Kootenai River. We did get a shot of one of several nests we saw along the way though...not an eagle, but it will have to do.

We drove through one of the last towns in Montana called Libby that claimed to be the "home of eagles"...yep, it pretty much was as you can tell by their sign. There must have been 6 or so different sculptures of different eagles along the route. Not sure how you go about erecting something so large, but all were very realistic. We don't know about y'all, but we learned a different way to park
our cars at school. The town must
have a rather large art community or an awful lot of free time.

About the only other thing we can say about the drive was that once you hit Idaho the term "scenic drive" didn't exactly fit. No really big mountains or wide vistas so not much to see why this was called a scenic highway in Idaho. Although it does seem that ice fishing is a popular activity...lots of frozen ponds with people & snow machines. We don't get it, but there were quite a few people out on the ice staring into the holes...must be the beer.

One other thing we noticed...drivers must have Idaho potatoes between the ears because why else would they need this reminder?Once we arrived in Spokane Valley you could tell that we must have become "wyomingnized or montananized" because between the traffic & number of people in these parts we both wanted to head back there. Not much else to say other than that about our first impressions of the area.
